Board Trustees serve a three (3) year term and are elected by Vestal Central School District voters. Library Fiscal and Trustee Term year runs July through June. VPL needs you! ​ The Vestal Public Library Board of Trustees has at least 3 vacancies to fill each year. Candidates are sought to serve up to a three-year term, helping to guide our community’s library forward in the 21st century. Candidates must live within the Vestal Central School District. Candidates must complete a Nomination petition with a minimum of 2 0 signatures and file it with the Vestal School District offices by 4 pm on the 3rd Monday in April (April 22, 2024). Petitions are available after January 15th each year. Petitions will be posted on the Library website for download or are available at the Libr ary or Vestal School District Offices. Anyone interested in more information, please consider attending one of our Board meetings, held at the library on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 pm or contact the Library Director.     POLICIES For Patrons Library Cards 4CLS Library cards are free to all patrons who live or own property in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, or Otsego Counties, and for patrons residing in Tioga County, but who are part of the Vestal Central School District. A Vestal Library Card may be used at any of the 4CLS Libraries within four counties: Broome, Chenango, Delaware, or Otsego Counties. To obtain a library card, patrons will need to fill out an application and provide a valid NYS Driver's License or Non-Driver ID card. If the patron does not have a valid NYS ID, they may provide any 1 of the following to prove residency: - a valid NYS motor vehicle registration - student ID - most recent tax bill or receipt - bank statement* - cable, phone, or utility bill* - piece of mail delivered by the US Post Office* (" *" starred items must have been issued within the last 3 months) - current rent bill or lease agreement* For those who do not reside in one of the above counties or Vestal Central School District, there is an annual non-resident fee of $50 ($25 for 55 & older) to obtain a library card. This fee entitles all who reside in the household access to a library card. Replacement cards are available for a $2.00 fee. Loan Period & Renewals All circulating items except DVDs are loaned for three (3) weeks and may be renewed once for an additional three (3) week period. DVDs are loaned for one (1) week and may can be renewed for an additional one (1) week. Overdue material may be renewed, but late charges will be billed to the patron’s account. Renewals can be made by telephone (607)754-4243 or online using your library card number. Some materials may auto-renew two (2) days before the original due date. Borrowing Limits per Library Card ​ Books & Magazines - No Limit Audio Books - 8 CDs - 8 DVDs - 4 PATRON CODE of CONDUCT Fines VPL is fine free! We no longer charge late fines for VPL materials. Fees Borrowers are responsible for all material checked out on their card. Unreturned materials will be marked as lost and will remain on a patron's account until the debt to the library is satisfied. Resolving a lost or damaged fee requires a consultation with a librarian. Damage fees will depend upon the level of damage to the item. Loss will result in a charge of at most the list price of the item. VPL does not accept physical replacements in lieu of fees. VPL follows the pricing of materials according to the Four County Library System. Unpaid fees or charges amounting to $5.00 will result in a suspension of library privileges until the fee is paid. Patrons have 30 days from the date of payment to return the library's lost item and receive a refund. Refunds over $5.00 must be processed by the VPL Business Office. Holds & Interlibrary Loans Circulating items owned by the Vestal Public Library or any other 4CLS member library may be placed on hold. Items will be held for 5 days after notification, as there may be a waiting list for items in demand. Patrons will be notified by phone or email. ​ Out-of-System Requests Out-of-system requests may be made for materials not owned by 4CLS member libraries. A $4.00 fee is charged for each title requested. Other fees may be required for items borrowed through the New York State Library or from other sources. Interlibrary loan requests may take two (2) or more weeks to fulfill and must be picked up within 5 days of notification.     VPL COMMUNITY ARTS CALLING ALL BROOME COUNTY ARTISTS! ARTIST REGISTRATION HALLWAY GALLERY CALENDAR The Vestal Public Library is seeking local artists interested in displaying their work at The VPL Gallery to celebrate local artists and foster an open dialog about art and visual communication. Each Artist or group of artists (if collaborating) will be assigned a month on the calendar for their show in the VPL Gallery (2D artworks) or Display Cases (for small-medium 3-D artworks). Each art show will remain on display for 1 month (unless otherwise indicated). ​​ ​ There is no cost or donation requirement to hang art in the VPL Gallery or Display Cases. Each Artist(s) is/are responsible for the timely installation and removal of all art according to the agreed upon schedule. All 2-D artwork must be hung from the provided picture rails (see a staff member for details) Artists must provide VPL with: an electronic copy of their artist statement an electronic copy of their show description / theme / etc… an electronic copy of all artworks in the show with: Title, Date, Medium/Process, Dimensions ​ Artists who choose to sell their artwork will provide their contact information along with their artist statement for sale purposes. VPL assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to displayed items. If desired, artists may provide their own insurance. VPL as a family friendly institution, reserves the right refuse the display of artworks containing or expressing content that is deemed inappropriate, including but not limited to: ​ Obscene content [messages or images]; ​​ Hate speech, personal attacks, insults, or threatening language ​ Artist(s) may book the Large Meeting Room for a free “Gallery Opening” on the First Friday of each month.     SUMMER READING CHALLENGE KIDS - Ages 0 - 18 Summer Reading Challenge runs from Monday, June 24 - Friday, August 16 for all ages! Track your progress by checking, crossing, or coloring a forest icon for every 15 minutes you read. For example, if you read 45 minutes in one day, mark off 3 icons. For every 3 hours (1 Row/12 forest icons) you read, bring this sheet to the library to collect a small prize and submit a raffle ticket (on the fold-out inside) for a grand prize! All reading logs must be returned no later than Saturday, August 24, to be eligible for prizes and raffle. Don't forget that graphic novels, audiobooks, eBooks, magazines, and articles count too! YOUTH SUMMER CALENDARS ADULTS SUMMER CALENDARS Summer Reading Teaser Flier GROWNUPS - Ages 18+ ​Summer Reading Challenge runs from Monday, June 24 - Friday, August 16 for all ages! Register for summer reading by picking up a punch card from any VPL desk starting June 24. Fill in you name and phone number. You will receive one hole punch upon return of a completed book or audio book. Finished Ebooks and audiobooks from Libby or Hoopla can count towards punch cards by showing a VPL staff member a screenshot of the completed, returned title. Patrons can start multiple cards if they forget the original at home. Uncompleted Cards with multiple punches can be combined to make one completed card (ie. one card with 3 punches, one card with 2 punches makes one completed card). If there are more than 5 punches, the surplus punches can roll over onto the next new cards. When your punch card is full, a staff member will initial it for you and you can enter it into the basket raffle of your choice. Basket raffles are located on the display table by circulation.
