The Vestal Public Library, founded in 1947, serves an area of more than 26,000 residents. Our library has more than 161,000 items in its collection, over 19,500 registered borrowers, and an annual circulation of over 225,000. The library is a member of the Four County Library System.

Loan Period and Renewals
All library items except videos and DVDs are loaned for three weeks. Videos and DVDs are loaned for one week. All material, except videos and DVDs, can be renewed once for an additional three week period. Videos and DVDs can be renewed for an additional one week. Overdue material can be renewed; late charges are billed to your account. Renewals can be made by telephone. Please call (607)754-4243 with your library card number at hand.
There is no limit on the number of books borrowed from the adult collection. There is no limit on the number of books borrowed from the Young Adult or Children's collection. DVDs and audio books are limited to 4 per adult card. Videos, music CDs, records, and audio cassettes are limited to 8 per adult card.
The fine for overdue material borrowed from the Adult Collection (except movies) is 10 cents per day per item, with a maximum fine of $5.00 per adult item and $3.00 per children's item. Video and DVD fines are $1.00 per day, with a maximum fine of $7.00 per movie. Children's book fines are 10 cents per day. Unpaid fines or charges amounting to $5.00 will result in a suspension of library privileges until the fine is paid.
Charges for Lost or Damaged Material
Borrowers are responsible for all material borrowed on their card. A charge is made for lost or damaged material, which includes a $1.00 processing charge. There is a $1.00 charge for reissuing a lost library card. Your card can be used at all other Broome County public libraries. It can also be used at all Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego County public libraries.
The library offers the use of three meeting rooms to community organizations. The Meeting Room has a capacity of 94 people, and contains a television and a video/DVD player. The Lecture Room has a capacity of 28 people, and contains a chalkboard. The Conference Room has a capacity of 11 people, and contains a chalkboard. The use of the kitchen is also permitted upon request. For non-profit organizations, the fee is $20 for use of the Meeting Room, $15 for use of the Lecture Room, and $5 for use of the Conference Room. For-profit meeting room fees are $50 for use of the Meeting Room, $40 for use of the Lecture Room, and $30 for use of the Conference Room.

The small study room is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you would like to use this room, please visit the Information Services desk.
Items not available at the Vestal Public Library often may be obtained through the Four County Library System. Interlibrary loan requests may take up to two to four weeks to fulfill. A 25 cent fee is charged for each title requested. For material borrowed out of the system, through the New York State Interlibrary loan system or other avenues, postage may be required from the borrower. Most circulating items can be placed on reserve for 25 cents per item. There may be a waiting list for items in demand. Items will be held for 5 days after notification. Patrons will be charged 25 cents for unclaimed items.
These email notifications inform you when reserves become available for pickup, when items are due in two days, and when items are overdue. To sign up, please visit the Circulation desk.
Wireless can be accessed for free both inside and outside the building during the library’s normal business hours. Connect to the “Vestal Library WiFi 2” network.
Computers and Printer
The library has 4 catalog computers and 11 Internet computers. The Internet computers have Microsoft Word 2003 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 installed, and are connected to a printer. The cost of the printer is 10 cents per page, and patrons must pay at the Circulation desk for all pages printed out. For assistance with printing, please visit the Information Services desk. In order to save your work, you must bring your own flash drive. You must have a library card with one of the libraries in the Four County Library System to use our computers.
The copier machine is near the library entrance. You can choose letter or legal size paper. Copies cost 10 cents per page.
Microfilm - Microfiche Reader/Printer
Copies cost 25 cents per page.
If you cannot come to the library, you can have items sent to your home for free. This service is for those who are visually impaired or physically handicapped. Please complete the application below and mail it to:

Community Bulletin Board, Community Information Pamphlets, and Educational Materials
Visit our bulletin board to learn about events taking place in our community. If you would like to post a flyer on our bulletin board, please visit the Information Services desk. We also offer free pamphlets from a variety of community organizations, and educational materials such as brochures about affording college and FAFSA worksheets.
The library has two display cases and wall display space available for community organizations and individuals. The display cases are 16”x 47” x 52”. In the past, we have hosted collections of photographs, pottery, original artwork, etc. For details, contact the Information Services desk at (607)754-4244.
There is a book sale rack set up near the library entrance. Paperbacks are 5 for $1.00 and hardcovers are 3 for $1.00.
